How the Irish Salary Calculator works
This Irish salary calculator estimates your take-home pay after the three statutory deductions taken from every Irish payslip: PAYE (income tax), the Universal Social Charge (USC) and Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI). Enter your gross pay, choose how often you are paid and your tax status, and the calculator applies the Revenue rules for the tax year you select. Open Advanced Settings to add pension contributions, a bonus, your age, medical card status or a different PRSI class.
The results show your net pay per month, week and year, a breakdown of each deduction, your effective tax rate and your hourly and daily rate before and after tax. Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent to us.
Step by step
- Gross pay: Your salary is converted to an annual figure using your pay frequency. Any bonus is added.
- Pension: Your pension contribution is deducted, because pensions get income tax relief.
- PAYE: Income up to your standard rate cut-off point is taxed at 20% and the rest at 40%. Your tax credits are then subtracted.
- USC: USC rates are applied to your full gross income in bands.
- PRSI: PRSI is charged on all earnings once you earn more than €352 a week, with a tapered credit between €352.01 and €424.

Worked example: €50,000 salary in 2026
Here is the calculation for a single PAYE employee earning €50,000 with no pension or bonus:
- PAYE: €44,000 × 20% = €8,800, plus €6,000 × 40% = €2,400. Gross tax of €11,200 minus €4,000 credits = €7,200.
- USC: €60.06 + €333.76 + €639.00 = €1,032.82.
- PRSI: €50,000 × 4.2375% (blended annual rate) = €2,118.75.
- Take-home pay: about €39,648 a year, or €3,304 a month.
Tips to increase your take-home pay
- Claim every tax credit you are entitled to, such as rent, medical expenses and remote working relief, through myAccount on Revenue.ie. See our tax credits guide.
- Pension contributions are taxed at 0% instead of 40% for higher-rate taxpayers, which makes them one of the most tax-efficient ways to save.
- Married couples and civil partners should check that their tax credits and standard rate band are allocated in the best way between them.
- Check your payslip for emergency tax. Read how to read your Irish payslip.
